In addition to the public yoga classes available at The Wellness Center, we also offer therapeutic yoga treatments, and they are an important component of our integrative primary care practice.
Yoga therapy addresses specific health conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and low back pain. Research also suggests that yoga has beneficial outcomes for certain chronic conditions, such as those made worse by stress, and can retard their advancing to more acute stages.
When prescribed for treatment, yoga is conducted in small groups or individual sessions. Poses are experienced at an appropriate level of effort to meet each patient’s individual needs, and they may include supported, relaxing poses—such as in this image—and breath work, all modified by the instructor.

At Casey Health we practice Iyengar yoga, an alignment based practice that includes breath work and posture. It is a personalized and gentle approach that benefits all, regardless of age, level of activity or health challenges.
